The anteater is inoffensive and usually runs (and swims) away from perceived danger. The armadillo, also known as the dilly, is an insect-eating mammal that has a bony-plated shell encasing its back. This shell is the animal’s protection. Although of the same family as the ant bear, the armadillo has teeth that are simple, rootless pegs in the back of its mouth. Because of these teeth, the armadillo is able to eat snakes, chickens, fruit and eggs. It also likes to munch on the occasional scorpion.
The crystal clear waters of the cenote have a depth of 288 feet (90 m) and a width of 640 feet (200 m), making it the largest cenote in the Yucatán.
